Buhari’s Endorsement: Tompolo Meets Ex-MEND Commanders

Former militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo reportedly met with former top commanders of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, from Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers states, yesterday, in Asaba, Delta State.

According to a reliable source, Tompolo convened the meeting to discuss February polls and how it affects President Goodluck Jonathan, Vanguard reports.

They also deliberated on the recent alleged endorsement of Buhari by the nonoperational MEND.

“The meeting was convened by Tompolo to deliberate with his former colleagues on next month’s presidential election as it affects President Goodluck Jonathan, who is an Ijaw indigene.

“They also reviewed the support of the nonoperational MEND for the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), and agreed on ways to mobilise ex-agitators in the region for the PDP presidential candidate,” the source said.

The source however declined further comments saying: “It is a top-secret meeting. I cannot tell you more than that. I am even surprised how you got to know about the meeting.”

The ex-MEND commanders were said to have left Asaba after the meeting for their respective states.

Reacting to report that the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, had pledged their support for the opposition party, APC, Jonathan had laughed it off, saying MEND leader, Okah tried to kill him twice.

The group had however pointed out that Jonathan had resorted to cheap blackmail, while urging Nigerians to vote out Jonathan’s corrupt and inept government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
