Boko Haram strikes again in Borno, kills scores

Again the outlawed Boko Haram sect attacked Banki, a border town in Bama Local Government Area of Bornu State killing people at will, moment after they sacked the only police station in the town.

Though details of the  number of casualties was not available as of the time of filing this report, the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Lawan Tanko, told journalists that the terrorists killed a policeman and injured many people.

However, some residents who spoke on condition of anonymity, said many people were killed by the sect members, who went from house to house slitting  their victims’ throats in the siege that lasted over an hour in the earlier hours of Wednesday.

This latest attack was not the first on the town, as it has been variously attacked by the sect in similar fashion.

Residents told journalists in Maiduguri on Thursday that the  attackers rode on motorcycles and Hilux Toyota  vehicles into the town from nearby bush.

They added that the attackers, who were armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked the police station first before they started killing residents.

One of the survivors, John Samuel, who spoke to journalists in Maiduguri said, “They drove from the nearby bush using motorcycles and carrying sophisticated weapons around 2am.”

He said that the attackers used rocket propellers to attack the station which caught fire immediately.

“Some of the policemen tried to engage them in a shoot out but they realised that the invaders had superior weapons so they had to run,” he said.

Samuel said that the attackers also raided homes killing and maiming residents before they fled the town through a bush path.

The state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Lawal Tanko, who confirmed the attack, told journalists that, “I can confirm there was an attack on Banki town by suspected members of the Boko Haram group in the early hours of Wednesday in which my station in Banki was partially affected. I lost an officer and some sustained injuries.”

Meanwhile, the Borno-based vigilance group, the Civilian JTF, has called on the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, to relax the curfew in Maiduguri, to enable it to contribute more in checkmating suspected terrorists.

Suicide bomber kills 30 in Maiduguri

This year’s Eid Malud Festival was marred in Maiduguri, Borno State  by a  bomb blast  at the busy Post Office Roundabout   in Maiduguri, Borno State on Tuesday.

A lone suicide bomber, believed to be a member of the Islamist militant sect, Boko Haram, carried out the attack which eye witnesses  said   left no fewer than 30 people dead and about 50 others injured.

The attack which occurred at about seven hours after eight people  died   in an   accident  on  the Osara-Okene Express Road, Kogi State, sparked protests by youths, who  alleged that  it  was traceable to politicians.

The angry youths damaged former governor Ali Modu Sheriff’s office  on   Kashim Imam Way  before  they left   for the  Government Reservation Area  where they  also torched  a building belonging to him.

It was gathered that the former governor, who was still in the state as of the time the explosion occurred, was hurriedly driven to the Maiduguri Airport   en route for Abuja. He  was said to have been escorted by a well armed police team.

Soldiers fired shots into the air to disperse the youths  before cordoning off the roads around the blast site and the GRA.

Investigation, however, revealed that Improvised Explosive Devices were wired to a vehicle and detonated  at the   roundabout which also leads to the Monday Market, the busiest market in  the troubled city.

There were however conflicting reports on  how the lone suicide  bomber  arrived and detonated IEDs close to a roadblock mounted by the military near the roundabout.

While the spokesman for  the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army Maiduguri, Col. Mohammed Dole, said the bomber drove a Honda car, Reuters said he arrived at the area in a tricycle  laden with IEDs.

Dole, who   blamed the attack on Boko Haram, said,  “At about 14:13 hours on Tuesday,  January 14, a Honda car laden with IEDs exploded near the Post Office area in Maiduguri metropolis. Members of the frustrated Boko Haram terrorists are suspected to be behind the bomb explosion.

“Many deaths and injuries were recorded and 10 vehicles and five  tricycles are confirmed damaged and one suspect is arrested. This incident happened after a long period of relative peace in Maiduguri and environs.”

But  the state Police Commissioner, Lawan Tanko, told Reuters that his men counted 17 bodies  as of 2pm on Tuesday.

“My men counted 17 dead persons as of  2pm and they are still counting. I instructed my men to go to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and the    Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri to verify if there are others,” Tanko added.

Tanko   confirmed that  the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber who drove a firewood seller truck and detonated a bomb in the middle of the road.

Tanko, who claimed that only five people were injured, added  that security operatives   were  immediately sent    to  public buildings to  prevent attacks on them by the rampaging  youths.

A journalist working at the state television office, Abba Kankami, also told the British news agency that he counted 29 dead bodies.

“The attack happened just behind the fence of my office. I counted 29 bodies, including two kids and a mother. Lots of others seriously injured,”  he said.

However, health workers claimed that 30 bodies were deposited at different hospital mortuaries in the city. They added that 50 injured persons were also brought in.

Another  eyewitness, Aisha Hassan, said  she saw  two boys whose  bodies were cut into pieces.

Hassan, who  added that two  cars immediately caught fire  when the explosion happened, said,  “I ran away because there was too much blood.”

A source  told one of our correspondents that     operatives who rushed to the scene of the blast  which occurred at about 1.30pm,  evacuated the injured and the dead to   the  hospitals.

When contacted, the   Director of  Defence Information, Maj.-Gen Chris Olukolade,  also confirmed  that  security operatives had arrested a suspected insurgent in relation to  the explosion.

He said  the suspect was already assisting a team  investigating  the incident.

The state Governor,  Kashim Shettima,  condemned the  blast,   saying it was  regrettable it happened at  a time people  were enjoying  the return of peace to Maiduguri.

In  a statement by his  spokesman, Isa Gusau, Shettima  expressed     condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

The statement reads in part, “He (governor) has directed the security to carry out a full scale investigation into the bomb explosion which resulted in the unfortunate youths’ rampage that led to the breakdown of law and order.

“The governor also condemned the uprisings in the last three days in the state capital which he described as unfortunate even though avoidable.”

He also said  that the governor had  directed the Ministry of Health to ensure that   all the injured received proper medical attention.

The statement added that the governor had  met with the National Security Adviser    in Abuja  on  issues of security of lives and property in Borno State.

The governor  appealed to all the  residents of the state to remain law abiding and  reminded  them that peace  was  a collective duty of all.

In  Kogi State, an accident involving  a Toyota Hiace bus, a trailer and a truck   claimed the lives of eight people on the  Osara-Okene Express Road  at about 6.30am on Tuesday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kogi State Command, Mr. Redengha Tampa,  said the  trailer collided with  the  truck  and  the bus.

All the dead were said to be the bus passengers.  Two other occupants  of the bus, who  sustained   injuries,  were rushed to Abobo Clinic, Itakpe, for treatment.

The   corpses were taken to the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre,  Lokoja.

Four killed, 15 injured in Kenyan grenade attack

A suspected grenade attack on a minibus in Kenya’s capital on Saturday killed at least four people

The incident occurred near a Somali-dominated area of the city. No immediate claim of responsibility was recorded.

Police, however, said attack mirrored some explosions in 2012, which were blamed on Somali militants.

“So far, I can confirm that four people have died in the explosion,” the Nairobi County Police Commander, Benson Kibui, told Reuters, without giving details.

Another police officer described it as a grenade attack.

At the scene in Pangani, an area next to Eastleigh, which is home to many Somalis, a Reuters reporter saw a destroyed minibus and metal, glass and other debris on the street. A car nearby was also damaged.

Kenya Red Cross and other ambulances were there. St John Ambulance reported on its Twitter account that 15 people were taken to one hospital and three died from their injuries.

On Friday, there was a grenade atttack on a market in Wajir, in northeast Kenya, near the Somali border. In that attack, police said masked men hurled two grenades, killing one person and injuring others.

Last year a series of such attacks in and around the Eastleigh area of Nairobi were blamed on Somalia’s al Shabaab Islamist group. The group staged an assault on a Nairobi shopping mall in September, which killed 67 people.

Al Shabaab said its gunmen carried out the mall attack to force Kenya to withdraw troops from Somalia, where they are part of an African peace-keeping mission battling with the Islamists.

Philips added that as a part of ways to solve the Boko Haram menace, there was the need for government to ensure equal access to opportunities across ethnic and religious lines.

He said, “The Boko Haram issue has to become a Nigerian issue. It doesn’t matter what part of the country I live or my religion. I do not believe that any true Muslim believes that this is what should be happening. I believe that we should stand up to be counted.

Two die, others injured in Lagos multiple accidents

Scenes of a multiple accident on the Otedola bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos... on Sunday

An unidentified woman and a pregnant lady were said to have died in the multiple accidents which occurred close to Otedola Bridge, along the Alausa area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday.

A large number of people were also said to have sustained injuries in the accidents.

The accidents, which happened about three times, were as a result if a series of multiple collisions involving over 25 vehicles.

The first accident was said to have been caused by an NNPC tanker with number plate, XG 321 MKA.

The tanker was allegedly on top speed and had a brake failure.

It rammed into the vehicle in front. Eyewitnesses said the development led to further collisions as other vehicles, which had slowed down because of the traffic snarl on the expressway, ran into one another due to the impact of the tanker.

The driver was said to have also throw smaller vehicles off its way.

The collisions led to two cargo trucks being pushed off the road, while the advancing NNPC tanker dragged a Toyota Camry along until it was stopped by the two cargo vehicles, one of which had fallen.

When our correspondent visited the scene on Sunday, part of the bonnet of the Camry car was trapped under one of the cargo vehicles.

Shortly after the first accident, a saloon car which was waiting for the occupants to catch a glimpse of the accident scene was also said to have been hit by another vehicle from behind.

This also led to further collisions. A woman in the saloon car was said to have died instantly while others in the car, including two children sustained minor injuries.

An eyewitness, Mr. Amos Ogah, who was in one the cargo vehicles that was involved in the first accident, said, “We were from Victoria Island going to Calabar when we met a holdup here. We were moving slowly when the NNPC tanker suddenly hit some vehicles behind us.

“I was looking at the tanker through the mirror and I could see that the driver had lost control.

“After the accident, a Toyota Hiace bus and a salon car which were waiting for their occupants to have a look at the scene of the accident were hit by another jeep. This also led to further collisions.”

According to Ogah, more than 10 vehicles were involved in the collisions.

Some hours later, a speeding truck belonging to Seven-Up Bottling Company also rammed into vehicles in the gridlock which had extended far behind the first accident scene.

More than 15 vehicles which were affected skidded off the road and stopped about some feet away from a ditch along the expressway.

At the scene of the third accident, which was about 100meters away from the scene of the earlier ones, were nine vehicles, including the Seven-Up truck and a Toyota Hiace.

A victim, Mrs. Kunbi Tuaklilawson, who escaped the third accident unhurt, but with her Lexus jeep badly damaged, said she was held up in the traffic jam till around 10pm when she suddenly heard a big bang behind her.

Tuaklilawson, whose vehicle had number plate, AGL 567 AM, said, “I was driving from Surulere and we were in the hold up when the accident happened.

“We suddenly heard a big bang from behind. We discovered that it was the Seven-Up vehicle, which was on top speed, was the one which ran into the vehicles behind us. All of a sudden several other bangs followed and before we knew it, we were being pushed off the road.”

The driver of the Hiace bus, Mr. Solomon Okemuyiwa, said apart from him, three other persons in the bus  sustained injuries.

He said the bus belonged to Radisson Blue Company and the persons in the bus were workers of the company.

He said, “I got to the scene of the accident around 10.35pm. We were in the holdup when we were suddenly hit by the Seven-Up truck. Our bus tumbled.”

A policeman from Isheri Police Station, who simply identified himself as Adewale, said the Seven-Up vehicle might have had brake failure.

Adewale, who was in mufti, said his station in Isheri became aware of the first accident around 8pm on Saturday and was at the scene along with other policemen and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority when the other accidents happened.

He said,”We were told about the accident about 8pm. We were rescuing victims and evacuating some of the affected vehicles when the other accidents happened.”

A text message from the Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Idowu Fadipe, said, “The muliple accidents claimed two lives; a pregnant lady and one other lady. Several people were injured and were taken to the hospital.”

SHOCKING: Woman Beheads Husband Of 9 Years In His Sleep Over Another Woman (PHOTO)

A woman, Zenab Agbontine, has been arrested by men of the Edo State Police Command for allegedly axing her husband to death after a quarrel.


The woman was said to have used an axe to sever her husband’s head when the latter was asleep in their home at Ubiane Aviele village near Auchi in Estako West Local Government.

Narrating what happened, the suspect said she had been married to her husband for nine years and that they had five children.

Zenab, who was paraded yesterday, said she was a farmer and that her husband was a night guard.

She said trouble started when he brought another woman home and asked her to leave.

Zenab, who spoke in tears while confessing  said: “He stopped me from entering his room. I pleaded with him to forgive me because I had problems but he refused. It was when he slept that I entered the room with an axe and hit his head. I don’t know what entered into me.”

Zenab said her refusal to leave made her husband to beat her and that she retaliated when she got hold of an object. She spoke in tears.

Among other suspects paraded are Augustine Obodeke, who allegedly had carnal knowledge of his daughter and impregnated her twice, Udoh Effiong, who defiled a 48-year-old woman on her farm, Omoti Oshioremun and Emmanuel Umoru, who joined four others to defile a 12-year-old girl.

Obodeke said he lived with his daughter and son after the death of his wife. He said he used to sleep with his daughter at night.

Police said Obodeke procured abortion for his daughter twice before the victim cried out.

Commissioner of Police Foluso Adebanjo said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation has been completed.

Five Crushed To Death As Building Collapsed In Kaduna

At least five persons died when a building collapsed at Angwan Dosa, Kaduna North Local Government Area of the Kaduna State on Saturday.

An eyewitness said the uninhabited building had been owned by the St. Faith Catholic Church, but sold to Alhaji Suleiman Danzaria in he wake of the 2011 political violence.
It was also learnt that the owner of the property contracted the demolishing of the building to one Alhaji Mohammed Idris.

Alhaji Idris and 25 workers came on Saturday to demolish the building. However, an eyewitness said, "we just heard some sound from where I’m sitting now only for us to rush down there to discover that the building had collapsed on the workers. They were demolishing the building manually. We expected that they make use of heavy equipment. You can see what ignorance had caused."

10 workers managed to escape unhurt, four died on the spot and another died at a private hospital.
The Kaduna Sate Deputy Governor Ambassador, Nuhu Bajoga, visited the scene of the incident, and warned property owners in the state against using sub-standard equipment during construction.

He noted that the incident would have been avoided if the right equipment had been employed.
The deputy governor sympathised with the family of the five deceased.

PHOTO: Train derails in New York killing 4 people, 63 injured

The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo has confirmed that four people are dead in the Bronx, New York today.

The deaths occurred as a train derailed in the area. 63 people are also wounded.

The Metro-North passenger went off the track in the Bronx borough. Of eight train cars, at least six were off the tracks. This is not the first time a collision will occurred on the same line. In May, two passenger trains colluded during rush hour in Connecticut.
According to CNN, tracking today’s tragedy:

Firefighters and emergency rescuers swarmed the scene, where at least two train cars had flipped on their sides. One car was just feet away from the Harlem River.

At least two of the dead appeared to have been ejected from the train, a source familiar

with the investigation and rescue told CNN.

Police divers were in the water hours after the crash searching for survivors, CNN affiliate WABC reported.

The train came off the tracks just as it was coming around a sharp curve shortly after 7 a.m., fire officials told CNN affiliate WCBS.

A law enforcement official on the scene and familiar with the investigation said the train operator told investigators he applied brakes to the train, but it didn’t slow down.

Passenger Frank Tatulli told WABC he thought the train was traveling “a lot faster” than usual.

He escaped a derailed car on his own and suffered head and neck injuries, he said. Other passengers were still on the train, he told WABC.

The derailment occurred near where a freight train derailed in July, WCBS reported. No one was injured in that accident.

Federal authorities are still investigating.

Policeman Shoots Inspector Dead, Injures Corporal

A police corporal simply identified as Ozeigbe Omobude is now at large after he allegedly shot and killed his colleague, an inspector, in Benin City, Edo State.

The incident was said to have occurred on Monday at about 8.00pm.

A police corporal said to be attached to Oregbeni Police Station, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City attacked and killed the inspector was on his way to official duty at United Bank of Nigeria Plc, located at Agbor road.

The identity of the inspector was yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.

The reason for the suspect’s action could also not be ascertained at press time.

The suspect who according to information is from Uokhai community in Owan East local government area of Edo state was also alleged to have shot another corporal simply identified as Ayinla.

According to report, the corpse of the late Inspector has been deposited in an undisclosed hospital while the shot corporal is said to be recuperating in the same hospital.

When contacted, Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Moses Eguavoen said he was yet to be briefed even as he promised to call the Oregbeni Divisional Police Headquarters for confirmation.

Young Nigerian woman killed in Columbus Indiana by her neighbour

The body of 26 year old Adaobi Michaella Obih (pictured above) was found yesterday Tuesday Nov. 19th at an apartment at Riverstone Apartments in Columbus, Indiana. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

A spokesman for the Columbus Police Department said her neighbour, 36 year old Ryan Allen Klug,  (pictured above) is a person of interest in the case. Ryan also lived in the apartment complex but has gone missing since Adaobi's body was found.

The Columbus Police have not revealed how and why Adaobi was killed but they're currently seeking the public’s help in locating Ryan Klug.

Adaobi was the first of two children and was already pursuing her PHD in Electrical Engineering at just 26 years old. So sad! May her soul rest in peace...Amen.

Chaos on Ajah Road in Lagos as trailer kills five school children

There's serious pandemonium on Ajah Road in Lagos as you read this. Area boys and passers-by are clashing with policemen after a trailer crushed five students as they were crossing the road. The sad incident happened close to Ikota Primary School and the dead pupils are believed to be making their way to the school when they were killed. The tanker driver abandoned his truck and escaped.

Nigerian socialite Taiwo Jamani dies after vicious attack by business partner

 

Nigerian socialite and business man Taiwo Jamani, 45, died yesterday November 13th about a month after he was attacked in Swords, Dublin by a business associate.

37year old Jooda Akanbi attacked Jamani with a baseball bat on October 10th in broad daylight on Main Street in the north Dublin town at about 12.20pm after an argument broke out between them.

Mr, Jamani, a human resource specialist who owns Data Link Company in Dublin, suffered serious damage to his back and neck after his own friend attacked him. An eye witness told police that the two men first began shouting at each other, then they were pushing and shoving...

"I think one was waiting for the other because the boot of his car was open and there were two bats in it even before the fight began. Then the man with the bat held it high over his head and brought it down hard on the other man’s head and he just slumped to the ground. It was shocking. It’s not something you expect to see,”the eye witness said.

Jamani was rushed to the hospital where he finally succumbed to his injuries. He died in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin yesterday. Mr. Akanbi has been arrested for murder and is currently awaiting trial.

Pastor commits suicide after telling congregation that God was not hearing him

Rev. Teddy Parker, a Macon, Georgia pastor killed himself a few days after telling his congregation at his church that God was not hearing him and no longer felt a connection to God.

"I try to pray but I don’t feel like God is hearing me,” Parker said to his congregation “I try to serve but I don’t feel like God is using me. And there are times in your life when God purposely withdraws from you, he doesn’t withdraw for the sake of leaving you but he withdraws so you can grow and mature.”

Rev. Parker, a father of two, shot himself in the head with his own gun following Sunday service at Bible Mount Zion Baptist Church while his family and congregation were still at his church waiting for him for the next service..

"When he didn’t show up they went looking for him,” a church member, Russell Rowland, told the Post. “I’m very surprised because he didn’t preach that. He preached totally against it. It’s something that the congregation don’t really understand.”.

Photos Of Girl Who Was Killed After She Went Clubbing With New Boyfriend

Afia (picture above) was like many girls her age, fun loving and outgoing until she was killed in an unfortunate accident after a night of clubbing. Afia had gone out with her new boyfriend for a night of drinking and partying in Kumasi, Ghana, after which they got into the car with the drunk boyfriend behind the wheels.

According to eyewitness accounts, they were both drunk when they left the club around 4am. Afia’s boyfriend allegedly drove into a tree and the poor girl who wasn't wearing a seatbelt was thrown out of the vehicle through the widescreen and was subsequently run over on the head by an oncoming car.

Upon getting to the scene of the accident, the police arrested Afia's boyfriend for drink-driving.

Nigerian man convicted of killing his 3yr old nephew for wetting bed 

Ben Igbinedion, 43, has been found guilty of killing his 3 year old nephew, Daniel Evbuowman after they shared bed.

Ben, of Bromley, southeast London, reportedly assaulted the little child in the early hours of March 2, 2013, after discovering Daniel wet the bed he and his uncle were sharing. After the assault Igbinedion put the child in a different bed, but when other family members tried to wake Daniel in the morning, they found him unresponsive. Daniel was taken to a hospital where he died.

During his trial, the court heard that Daniel was put in the care of Igbinedion, who was also left in charge of his three children while his wife was at work. He told Daniel and his youngest son that they should sleep in his room, while his other two children sleep in their own room. One of Igbinedion’s children was woken by him telling off Daniel for wetting the bed, the jury was told.

A post-mortem found that Daniel died from major trauma to his ribs and pelvis, and established the injuries could not have been caused by a fall from a bed.

He was convicted yesterday November 7th for the little boy's murder

Igbinedion’s testimony of the events of that night were contradicted by the accounts his children gave to police.

Speaking after the guilty verdict, detective chief inspector Graeme Gwyn said: “Ben Igbinedion's violent actions resulted in the death of a three-year-old boy who had no chance of defending himself and devastated the lives of two families.

“Throughout the time since Daniel's death, Igbinedion has continued to deny any involvement. However, a jury has seen through his story and convicted him of murder.”
In a statement read to the court, Daniel’s mother Augustina Kunu said: “How do I describe the loss of my only child Daniel? Daniel’s death has left me empty, heartbroken, lonely, lost, devastated and confused.
“I cannot concentrate or focus on my studies, I am unable to sleep and when I am able I wake up in tears because I can no longer see him lying by my side. I cannot get over Daniel’s death because of the bond we had.”

She added: “He was a brilliant son, a friend, a star, a hero and a help-mate. He would look into my eyes and say, ‘Mummy how are you?’ His death has affected my marriage, leaving it empty because Daniel was our dream, the pride and crown of our marriage.
“His dad, Victor, has been left broken-hearted, confused, lonely and empty. This whole matter has pulled our family apart. My prayer is that God will restore peace to our families.”

Igbinedion will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on November 22.

Fulani herdsmen kill family of four in early morning attack in Plateau

A family of four was murdered on Tuesday November 5th during an early morning attack on Rantis Village in Garshes District, Barkin-Ladi LGA of Plateau State. The spokesperson of the Special Task Force, STF, on Jos crisis, Salisu Mustapha, confirmed the attack, describing it as dastardly

Mr. Musatapha said, however, that no arrest has been made, but investigations were ongoing. He assured Plateau residents that the suspects would be brought to book. The ugly incident occurred at about 4.a.m when the attackers, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, invaded the village. According to witnesses, the attackers wore masks and were armed with guns.

According to a report by AFP, gunmen attacked a wedding convoy in Borno state yesterday Saturday November 2nd, killing more than 30 people including the groom in a suspected ambush.

Witnesses and survivors said the attack happened on the notorious Bama-Banki road when the wedding party was making its way back to the state capital Maiduguri after the ceremony in Michika, in nearby Adamawa State.

Photos : Niger migrants died from thirst, after stranding in Sahara desert

About 92 Nigeriéns who died of thirst in the Sahara Desert on their way to Algeria after their long vehicle broke down were buried today by government officials of Agadez State.

A foreign journalist who covered the event told SaharaReporters that some of the corpses, who were mostly women and children, were eaten up by animals and birds in the desert. Some of the bodies are yet to be found.

The reporter also said that the government of the Republic of Niger has declared three days of national mourning over the tragedy.

Some of the survivors explained that their vehicle developed technical faults that could not be rectified, and that they wandered in the hot weather without water to quench their thirst, leading to their death.

The survivors are presently being treated for malnutrition and dehydration.

Graphic Photos : Over 30 Die At Holy Ghost Adoration Ground After Gov Peter's Obi Political Campaign Caused A Stampede

Over 30 people allegedly died early hours today [November 2, 2013] at the Holy Ghost Adoration Ground after All Progressive Grand Alliance [APGA] started campaigning at the prayer house.

The Holy Ghost Adoration Ground which is located at Uke town in Anambra State is one of the biggest Catholic prayer groups in Anambra State officiated and managed by Fr. Obimma (Ebube Muonso).

According to reports, Gov Peter Obi, Willie Obiano and the APGA team had entered the ground to campaign but when the audience opposed them, his people rushed the crowd, beating women and
some men like babies.

This reportedly caused a stampede that eventually got a lot of worshippers injured. At the end of the stampede, over 28 corpses were seen littered on the grounds. An estimate of over 200 were injured. A large percent of the dead and injured are believed to be Ngige supporters.

However, according to another eyewitness, Martin Nworah

Peter Obi,Willie Obiano and the APGA team left the Adoration ground around 3 or 4 am in the morning while the incident happened at the end of the adoration service.

After the final blessings and as people will slowly marching to the exit, a mole; supposedly someone positioned at the exit to raise the alarm, started shouting fire fire fire fire from the outside of the arena.

Given the large number of people slowly moving out of the ground, they hurriedly began rushing back into the adoration ground to avoid the fire; a fire which many of them didn't even see.

This caused many of them to be wounded and I was lucky nothing happened to people close to me. Some fainted while others lost consciousness.

When the stampede subsided, the bodies were gathered and were prayed for. Many of them rose up after the prayers and sprinkling of the holy water while the remaining were taken to Crown Hospital while one was taken to St. Charles Borromeo hospital Onitsha.

 Many of the unconscious are regaining stability as at now and we thank God that some professed dead are returning to life; this has brought some amount of joy in front of Crown hospital.

This is an individual report and has nothing to do with any political party. This is the state of things and how it occurred at Uke.

Bodies numbering between 10 and 30 were carried away from the ground but official statistics and reports is yet to be released from the Adoration ground or from the hospital.

14 year old boy rapes 9 year old girl to death in Ikorodu

Unbelievable sad story of how a teenage boy raped a 9yr old girl to death in the Ikorodu area of Lagos

The police in Lagos State have commenced investigation into how a nine-year-old girl died, after sustaining injuries caused by alleged consistent rape. According to police authorities, the deceased was raped over five times, by a 14-year-old student, Onyi Adimabua, in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The father of the deceased, Simeon Jigo, told Punch Metro that Onyi is the son of the proprietor of the school his daughter attended. He said his daughter opened up about the rape when she started having medical problems. The 77-year-old man said his daughter died on October 3, 2013.

He said, “Up until my daughter’s death, she was a pupil of Fulfilled Greenland School, Ikorodu, and she was in primary three. One day, she came home and started complaining of pains around her vagina, stomach area. We rushed her to Ikorodu General Hospital.

“A doctor checked her and after conducting some tests on her, told us that my daughter had sustained medical complications due to forced sexual intercourse. I was alarmed by this; so, I had a private discussion with my daughter.

“She told me that it was her school proprietor’s son, Onyi, that had been raping her. The boy had threatened to kill her if she ever told anyone about it.”

The indigene of Ondo State told PUNCH Metro that after initial treatments, he took his daughter to Arogbo in Ondo State to be taken care of but her condition continued to deteriorate.

A few days after the troubled father travelled to Ondo State, Onyi, accompanied by his parents, also travelled to Ondo State, to apologise to Jigo’s family. The girl, however, was said to have died that very day.

 “On getting to the house where my daughter was, we discovered that she was dead. Onyi confessed that he had been raping my daughter prior to her death,’ Jigo said.

PUNCH Metro learnt that after the girl’s demise, irate youths in the area attempted to lynch the 14-year-old boy.

The bereaved father was said to have intervened and reported the matter to a nearby police station, where the teenager was held for safe keeping. The next morning, Onyi and his parents travelled back to Lagos.

The alleged rapist’s parents, in company with a chief in Ikorodu, reportedly visited Jigo when he returned to Lagos. The group were said to have pleaded that the bereaved father should not pursue the case but he refused.

Jigo said, “I went to the Ikorodu Police station to report the case but was surprised when the policemen on duty said I should not write any statement.  They only told me to write down my telephone number and said they would call me later.

 

“After waiting for many days without any call, I wrote a petition and the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.”

It was however learnt that Onyi had been taken to his father’s hometown in Delta State thereby stalling police investigation.

The teenager’s parents,  however described the incident as the handiwork of the devil.

The 14-year-old boy’s father, Andrew Adimabua, said, “I trained that boy in the way of the Lord and expected so much from him. He has confessed to the act; there is nothing to hide. He told me that he learnt about sex by watching blue (pornographic) films.

“We are not hiding him and we will cooperate with the police. On the day the little girl died, he was beaten up and made to stay in the rain for hours. As a result, he contracted pneumonia so we sent him home for treatment. When he recovers, he’ll be taken to the police for questioning.”

Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone, expressed shock at the development.

Braide said Onyi would be re-arrested in the course of investigation.

“It is appalling that a teenager could indulge in such act. The matter is under investigation and the culprit will be re-arrested.”
