The senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa's governorship bid received another boost yesterday, 5th, February, 2015 as non-indigenes in the state, which comprises the Hausas, Fulanis, Yorubas, Igbos and Edos endorsed him for the state's number one seat.
In an enlarged meeting at Asaba, the non-indigenes who spoke in turns at intervals said they are throwing their weights behind the senator Okowa's ambition because of his people and development-oriented disposition.
In the word of Mr. Osarobu Osamudiamwen, spokesperson for the Edos "after a closer look at his antecedents and clean dossier which speaks volume, we found him capable and credible enough for our support and that is why we are pledging our total support him today".
The spokesman for the Hausa/fulani community, Alhaji Sule Ibrahim said the group's position to rally round the distinguished senator Dr. Okowa was informed by the development he (Okowa) has attracted to the people of Delta North within a space of less than four years as a senator representing the senatorial district. In his word, " we, the Hausa community in Delta state will give 100% of our vote to Dr. Okowa in the coming general elections because within a space of less than four years in the senate, he has attracted development projects to Delta North that has touched and enhanced our living standard, even though we are
non indigenes". He further said the Hausa/Fulani have no doubt in their mind that as governor, senator Okowa will do more.
The Yoruba community who also pledged their total and unalloyed support said every Yoruba person in Delta State will vote PDP and ensure victory for senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa who has imparted lives tremendously and made remarkable and visible achievements that has distinguished him from his opponents in the race. " We are druming support for senator Dr. Okowa, because unlike his opponents in other parties, he's demonstrated his love for the people he serves and this is a prerequisit for the dividends of democracy to get to the people, hence we are voting massively for him".
Senator Dr. Okowa, on his part, while commending the various groups for their support and show of love assured them of a purposeful leadership of mutual partnership. " I assure you that if elected as governor with your support, I will run a purposeful and all-inclsive government that will not discriminate against any group".This was aplauded by the crowd of non-indigenes as the meeting came to a close at about 4pm.
