SUPER Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi will lead other Delta State ex-professional footballers against their colleagues from across Nigeria for a football classic in honour of Delta State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, ahead next month general election. It will hold on January 26 at the Warri City Stadium.
Speaking with reporters Wednesday, coordinator of the Football Classic, Stephen Cole, said that Keshi would captain the Delta State team, which will include the likes of Austin Okocha, Sunday Oliseh, Davidson Owumi, Victor Agali, Victor Ikpeba, Stephen Cole, and others.
According to him, the Nigeria team will be captained by Henry Nwosu and will include the likes of Austin Eguavoen, Kano Nwankwo, Tajudeen Disu, Dahiru Sadi, and Daniel Amokachi.
Stephen Cole, an ex-captain of Dolphins FC and owner of Coliphen Sports Football Academy said the football Classic encounter is to create awareness and support for Senator Ifeanyi Okowa governorship candidacy in the forthcoming general election in Delta state.
The director of the Nigeria players union said the program would also feature other football teams in the state like Warri Wolves taking on Bayelsa united.
Cole told The Guardian on phone yesterday that Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan would lead other top government functionaries, including the PDP governorship flagbearer, Okowa, in a penalty shootout during the half time break.
He added that the Football Classic, which is packaged by friends of Senator Okowa in conjunction with Face-To-Face, which is being coordinated by Cole, is aimed at bringing together all ex-professional footballers from Delta State and unites Deltans ahead the coming election. Cole hinted that the Football Classic has the backing of Okowa’s Campaign Organisation.
