GEJ-Chibok

Chibok indigenes resident in the nation’s capital have denied knowledge of a N100 million presidential largesse allegedly given to a delegation of Chibok community from Borno State, when they visited President Goodluck Jonathan recently at the presidential villa, Abuja.

The Chibok indigenes, under the banner of Kibaku Area Development Association (KADA), Instead, claimed that the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties, Prof. Dan Adebiyi after the visit with the president, visited the hotel where they were accommodated and presented a token of N100,000 each to the escaped girls on behalf of the Presidency.

Out of the 122 parents that visited, KADA explained that Prof Adebiyi gave 61 parents N200,000 each and another 51 parents N100,000 each, while the remaining 10 parents were told that the money was finished.

According to KADA, they did not receive any cash amount from the presidency, neither did Prof. Adebiyi, who had been coordinating the visit on the side of the president, give them notice before sharing the largesse.

The association expressed regrets that the approach of sharing formula adopted by the presidency has brought reproach and dishonour to their community in the eyes of the general public, which has supported them since the abduction of the 200 girls of Government Secondary School, Chibok.

Speaking at a press brief, organised by the leadership of KADA and read by its spokesperson, Dauda Iliya said that the money causing the controversy back in Chibok was not the money given by the presidency, but the N1 million that was given to the parents by the member representing Chibok/Damboa/Gwoza Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Biye Gumtha.

His words, “It is noteworthy that our primary goal is the safe return of the girls that are still in captivity. It is sad that we are losing sight of this to the allegation of sharing money. We therefore want the world to understand that we, KADA stands by our earlier position and did not demand, receive or handle any finances throughout the process of the visit.

“On the night of the 22nd July, 2014 at about midnight, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties who had been co-ordinating the visit of the side of the Presidency, visited the hotel and told the 51 escaped girls who came that the President sent them a token of N100,000 each and accordingly gave them the said sum without prior discussion with any KADA official or any other person in the community.

“He equally gave the sum of N200,000 each to 61 parents out of the 122 parents that came on the visit. 51 parents were given N100,000 each on the basis that the money given to him was not enough to go round at N200,000. The remaining 10 parents were not given any amount of money.

“As for the money given to some parents back home in Chibok, it was the sum of N1,000,000.00 given to them by the Hon. Member of the House of Reps. Representing Chibok/Damboa/Gwoza Federal Constituency, which is the source of the alleged N7,000.00 given to parents in Chibok that were not part of the visit.

“While we acknowledge that any well intended support for our suffering population which has lost its means of livelihood since the events of April 14 and subsequent attacks could be welcome, however the approach that the Presidency adopted has brought reproach and dishonour to our community in the eyes of the public that has supported us since the abduction of our daughters.

“We hereby state categorically that no amount of money whatsoever was given to KADA leadership to share among the parents and escaped girls or for whatsoever reason and therefore the allegation is completely baseless, false and malicious.

“We clearly spelt out to the Presidency through the office of the Chief of Staff that we shall not be involved with any financial transaction whatsoever, including payment of transportation from Chibok to Yola, flight by air from Yola to Abuja, hotel accommodation and feeding in Abuja, and intra-city transportation while in Abuja.

“When the Presidency requested us to invite parents and escaped Chibok girls against 22nd July, 2014, we accepted the responsibility on the condition that we shall facilitate by way of contacting and mobilizing the parents and escaped girls thereby playing the sole role of facilitators”.

Meanwhile, PREMIUM TIMES has been informed by the president’s spokesman, Reuben Abati, that his principal had no hand in the disbursement of cash gifts to the visitors.

“The president did not give approval for money to be distributed to anybody”, Abati insisted, adding that “The president’s commitment is to get the girls safely back. This is not an occasion for blackmail. This is unknown to the president”.

In response to a question of whether it was possible for the president to host the distraught parents and the girls without giving them gifts, Mr. Abati said the president does not have to give gifts to visitors.

“If people are guests of the president, it is standard routine that the government will take care of logistics…” but he (president) did not give the directive that people should be bribed, he added.

On the next line of action following the controversy, Mr. Abati said “If the office of the president is being dragged into this, you can be sure it will be investigated”.

APC: Nasarawa Lawmakers Must Follow Impeachment To Logical Conclusion, Slams Jonathan For Impunity

Lai-Mohammed23042Lai-Mohammed2304The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration “scores first in the area of impunity”.

It also berated the present administration for its notoriety in acts of impunity.

The opposition party made these observations as part of its analysis of the ongoing impeachment saga playing out in Nasarawa State.

In a press statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, APC lampooned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members of Nasarawa House of Assembly for demanding the dissolution of the seven-member panel inaugurated by the state’s Chief Judge to probe the allegations leveled against Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

The party described the action of the PDP-dominated Nasarawa assembly as unreasonable and unconstitutional, arguing that for the first time in the history of the nation’s democracy, the legislature was seeking to disband the investigative panel it directed the Chief Judge to set up.

It said that the demand by the lawmakers showed that they either had poor understanding of the constitution or they were blinded by their desperation to impeach Gov. Al-Makura.

“Either way, they have boxed themselves into a tight corner. Holding an illegal sitting in Abuja with a fake mace is as ridiculous as the demand by the lawmakers for the dissolution of the panel set up by the Chief Judge”, the party said.

”Section 188 (5) of the Constitution is clear: ‘Within seven days of the passing of a motion under the foregoing provisions of this section, the Chief Judge of the state shall, at the request of the speaker of the house of assembly, appoint a panel of seven persons who in his opinion are of unquestionable integrity, not being members of any public service, legislative house or political party, to investigate the allegation as provided in this section’.

“It is important to point out to the desperate lawmakers that the key words in that section is that the chief judge must appoint persons who in his opinion are of unquestionable integrity. At this juncture, it is neither the opinion of the speaker nor that of the legislators that counts; it is the opinion of the chief judge.

“Therefore, neither the speaker, the lawmakers nor the chief judge can dissolve the panel at this stage, and none of them can stop the impeachment process. Once the chief judge has appointed the panel under Section 188 (5), he becomes ‘functus officio’, that is he has no further powers on the matter. This is the situation of things at present and the lawmakers can only await the report of the panel”, the APC spokesman said.

APC said it was not surprised with the unwarranted and illegal call for the dissolution of the panel by the PDP members of the Nasarawa legislature, because that call fell within the realm of the runaway impunity for which the PDP and the Jonathan administration have become infamous.

“What the house is suffering from now is called boomerang. Against sound advice, it went ahead to initiate the impeachment process. Well, it must now follow it to its logical conclusion. The chief judge cannot be made to dissolve the seven-man panel because he simply lacks the power to so do”, APC added.

Oshiomhole Inaugurates Boards Of Four State Agencies, Calls For Quality Service Delivery

Adams-Oshiomhole

Adams OshiomholeGovernor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, on Wednesday charged public servants in state-owned agencies to collaborate with their various units to render quality services to people of the state.

He gave the directive when he inaugurated four boards under the state ministries of environment, education and tourism in Benin City, with a charge to collaborate with Management of the agencies for optimum result.

The inaugurated boards include the Waste Management Board, headed by Mrs. Elizabeth Ighodaro; Technical and Vocational Education Board, led by Lady Tina Agbara; while the Tourism Board and Environmental Committee are chaired by Mrs. Jane Osagie and Comrade Murktar Yusuf Osagie respectively.

The governor called for synergy between the management and the board to achieve optimum results because the role of the latter was different from the role of the former.

“Management has responsibilities for day-to-day running under the guidelines that are formulated by the boards.

“In some cases, there are some enabling laws that set up these bodies and of course, whatever you want to do must be done in conformity with the provisions of the law”, the governor said.

Oshiomhole described the management team as seasoned professionals with responsibilities, special skills and knowledge to manage and ensure that the organization achieved its objectives.

He recalled that there had been friction in the past between members of both the management and board of state agencies in the course of their duties, adding that such tensions were “completely unnecessary”.

Oshiomhole said, “So I trust that you will all realise that regardless of your level, all of us here including myself are all working for the same principal, who are the people of Edo State.

“We are all accountable to the Edo People.

“In discharging your duties, ensure that you are adding value to the quality of life of Edo people because that is the bottom line.

“Of course you know that our Party is founded on the principles of popular participation.

“Other people may boast of their capacity to manipulate elections, we boast of our capacity to deliver on our mandate, deliver on public welfare and infrastructure”.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde Is The Most Beautiful Actress In The History Of Nigeria [PHOTOS]

omotola-most-bu-1_280x315

2014 is the year of the Nigeria Centenary and since Amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates by the colonial British Empire to form a unified country in 1914, no other Nigerian actress as beautiful as the current reigning Queen of Nollywood Mrs. Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has graced the silver screen.

Omotola is the most beautiful Nigerian actress since the making of the first feature film "Palaver" in Nigeria in 1926 to date. She is also one of the most wonderful actresses in the world and my judgment has nothing to do with her being named among the most influential icons in the world in the TIME 100 of 2013. She is the epitome of beauty from the crown of her perfect head to the delicate toes of her perfect feet and that is why she is always making the list of the prettiest and sexiest actresses in Nollywood and also featured in the 34 Beauty Queens of Nollywood and Kannywood as never seen before in a single publication in the second edition of the NOLLYWOOD MIRROR® SERIES.

She is the most liked Nigerian actress on Facebook and the most viewed on all mobile devices.
She seems to be getting more beautiful as she is growing older as a happily married mother of four lovely children. And her handsome husband air pilot Capt. Matthew Ekeinde adores her 24/7.

''I never predicted Kefee's Death..I just told her my dream''-Ara

drummer-ara-dreamer_280x418

A few days after Kefee passed on, renowned  talking drummer,Ara was quoted to have said she warned Kefee and predicted her death(Here)..Now she set the record straight to the Sun

"May Kefee’s soul rest in peace. I want to clear this issue once and for all. I never predicted Kefee’s death. All those reports are not true.I had a dream though and I called her up and told her what I saw in my dream. I told her to pray very hard and she said, ‘sister, I don’t hear, thank you’ and that was all. Before I knew it there were reports all over that I predicted Kefee’s death.I can’t talk about it; I don’t want to talk about it. Whether she took my advice or not I will never know but I never predicted her death; that’s all I can say.“I have a gift and every one in my family knows about it. People who are very close to me also know about it. If I call you and say I had a dream and I saw this and that, you had better do something about it! I would never share what I told her with anybody and if I must, it would be with her husband and no one else.”

Nigerian Church Members Lose Focus Over Indecent Dressing to Church [Must Read]

indecents-cuuh_280x286

Indecent dressing to church is no longer news especially in our country Nigeria where moral is been taken in high esteem.

Today in various churches, ladies dress the way they like in all manner of designs there by exposing either their cleavages or their thigh all in the name of dressing and the next thing you here is “it is not the body that matters but the mind.”

Believe it or not, they cause many to derail in thoughts during service and you never can tell, because Pastors too are human.

Looking at this trend, in years to come the situation might worsen as there may be no distinction between club girls and the ‘sisters.’

Though many churches now preach about prosperity, yet there are some churches that still preach salvation like; Deeper Life Bible Church, Mountain of Fire, The Redeemed Christian Church of God whose General overseer has band females from wearing trousers to church and Christ Living Apostolic Ministries (CLAM).

The question now is who should be blamed? Is it all about evolving trends and should it be extended to the church? If emphasis is laid on dressing, won’t the church lose its members? These are questions begging for answers.

Why I didn’t attend Jude’s wedding - Peter of PSquare

Peter-Okoye-and-Lola-Omotayo-The-Trent-795x530_280x187

“If you do me I do you, God no go vex”- PSquare sang in their hit single, “Do Me”.

Certainly, Peter Okoye, the other half of pop duo, PSquare, paid his elder brother, Jude Okoye, back in his own coin by missing Jude’s wedding which took place in Anambra on Thursday.

Jude ‘engees’ Okoye missed Peter’s traditional wedding to Lola Omotayo in 2013 and then posted a picture of himself in a Lagos studio.

In turn, Peter, Thursday, posted pictures of himself with a friend in front of a hotel and later with another group of friends inside their Omole, Lagos- SquareVilla- home on Instagram.

After some of his followers criticised him for being childish and saying he should have attended the wedding, he immediately went on a series of tweet explanation, saying the only family he knows is the one he built.

“Pple talking shit about blood” which blood is thicker than the 1 of my children? #mufus. asked fans “Does ur mum and dad care more about der own siblings more than they care for u? #mufus” he wrote via his @PeterPsquare handle.

Peter also blocked some of his followers who criticized him.

“#mufus talking about family! My number 1 family for now is the 1 I built. And nobody can change dat. #amout”, he said.

The Evil Machinations Of Presidency, PDP Against Amaechi’ll Fail – Rivers APC

Amaechi-GEJ
The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has reassured its members and the people of the state that the job of the Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, is not threatened.

The reassurance is coming on the heels of the apprehension in some quarters after the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, identified Amaechi as one of the remaining four governors of the party marked for impeachment before the 2015 elections after former Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako was impeached.

In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Public Affairs to the state Chairman of APC, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, the ruling party in the state described Amaechi as an experienced politician, who was in a better position to understand legislative power games.

“The Rivers State chapter of the APC wishes to reassure party faithful, the good people of Rivers State and all progressives across the country that the job of the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, remains very much safe.

“This reassurance becomes necessary in view of the apprehension in some quarters following the confirmation by the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, that Amaechi is one of the five APC governors pencilled down by the Presidency to be impeached before the 2015 elections – others being the governors of Adamawa (already impeached), Nasarawa, Edo and Borno.

“We are confident that God will not allow the evil machinations of the Presidency and the PDP to materialise. In the specific case of Rivers State, we are sure that God who has protected Amaechi all these years will surely see him through to the end of his tenure.”

“We should also appreciate the fact that apart from politics, most of the members of the House are Amaechi’s colleagues and political associates, who are too principled to sell out at this crucial time”.

Explaining that Amaechi and the state lawmakers shared similar political fate, the state APC recalled that they (Amaechi and the 25 lawmakers) were all suspended from the PDP and forced to join the APC.

It described the pro-Amaechi members of the House of Assembly, who formally defected to APC last week, as victims of PDP’s brutality and high-handedness.

“Amaechi and the G25 lawmakers detest evil, greed and politics without principle, which are the hallmarks of Nyesom Wike’s G6 lawmakers.

“Not to be overlooked is Amaechi’s feats in education, health, agriculture provision, quality roads and making Port Harcourt the world book capital. All these have conferred on him an international stature and any mad step to impeach him for any unholy reason will attract the ire of the international community”.

The Rivers APC, however, congratulated the pro-Amaechi lawmakers for defecting to the party, adding that their action has proven that they are true progressives.

“By so doing, they have proved and demonstrated that they are true progressives who are resolutely committed towards an egalitarian, virile and vibrant Rivers State.

“With this development, the Speaker, Hon. Otelemaba Amachree; Deputy Speaker, Leyii Kwanee, a barrister; Majority Leader, Chidi Llyod, a barrister; Deputy Leader, Ewor Nname Robinson; Acting Chief Whip, Irene M. Inimgba, a barrister; and others, APC now enjoys an overwhelming majority in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“With the rejection of the PDP by the Rivers State people, the Evans Bipi-led G6 renegade lawmakers should read the handwriting on the wall and follow the good example of the majority lawmakers before it is too late”, the statement read.

PDP Has Not Traded NASS Seats With Any Opposition Party For Support In 2015, Says Mark

David-Mark

Senate President, David Mark, has dismissed as a ruse, the purported agreement entered into by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to trade-off some National Assembly seats to the opposition political parties ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

He made the clarification on Saturday while addressing stakeholders at Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, alongside his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Mark, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh, on Sunday, stated this against the backdrop of rumours that Senate and House of Representative seats in Anambra State had been traded off to the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in an alleged accord to get the party’s support for 2015.

Mark said, “There is no such deal with any opposition party anywhere. Nobody should deceive you into believing that PDP has an agreement with any opposition party. PDP has a manifesto and only an elected PDP candidates can implement it.

“It is false and unfounded. Rumours making the rounds in the state that National Assembly seats, including Anambra North Senatorial seat currently being occupied by the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Senator Margery Chuba-Okadigbo, has been negotiated out to APGA for 2015.

“Nobody has negotiated out any position to any opposition party. I am not aware of it and I am not a party to it. PDP is steady and stable. We have no need for that”.

While paying glowing tributes to one of his predecessors, the late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo (the Oyi of Oyi), who he described as very intelligent, flamboyant and a vibrant senator, Mark urged the people to rally round the late senate president’s wife, Margery Okadigbo, who is now a senator, to enable her succeed.

The Igwe of Ogbunike HRM, John Ositadimma Umenyiora, bestowed on the Senator Mark the chieftaincy title of Eze-Udo (meaning, King of peace) for his meritorious services to his father land.

The Igwe enjoined the senate president to continue to work for the peace, stability and unity of Nigeria.

President’s Deployment Of Soldiers For Election Duties Unconstitutional, Says Falana

Soldiers
Human rights activist and Lagos lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) has described as illegal and ultra vires, President Goodluck Jonathan’s deployment of members of the Armed Forces for election duties.

In a statement yesterday in Lagos, titled, ‘Illegal Involvement of Soldiers in Election Duties’, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria cited Sections 215 and 217 of the Constitution, which stipulates that the power of the President to deploy Armed Forces for internal security is limited to the suppression of insurrection, including insurgency and aiding the police to restore order when it has broken down.

Falana argued that rather than deploy soldiers for election duties, the President should strengthen the police to ensure internal security while the Armed Forces should be restricted to defend the nation’s territorial integrity.

He stressed that under the current constitution, the President lacks the power to involve soldiers in maintaining law and order during elections.

Falana said: “Even in the Northeast, a state of emergency had to be declared by the President to justify the deployment of the Armed Forces as part of the extraordinary measures he was required to take to restore law and order pursuant to Section 305 of the Constitution. Even then, the President had to seek and obtain the approval of the National Assembly for the deployment for a specific period of time”.

He also described as “misleading, apologia for the militarisation of the recent governorship election in Ekiti State” an article by a former presidential spokesman in the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, Bashorun Akin Osuntokun on the “militarisation and other fallacies” published in his weekly column in ThisDay of July 11.

According to Falana, Osuntokun, in hailing the soldiers for displaying professionalism, “was curiously silent on the infringement of the fundamental right of Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s freedom of movement, which occurred at Iju-Itagbolu in Ondo State, contrary to Section 41 of the Constitution”.

He added: “The governor, who was billed to attend a political rally at Ado-Ekiti on June 19, 2014, was crudely turned back by the soldiers who claimed that they were acting on ‘orders from above’.

“Mr. Osuntokun was equally silent on the illegal curfew imposed on Ekiti State by the army. Or, was any curfew declared by the relevant authorities that was not announced? A client, Mr. Bayo Fajimi, who was going home from Akure, Ondo State (his place of residence), was disenfranchised as he was prevented by the soldiers from entering Ekiti State at 6.30pm on June 20 because of the illegal curfew! Is the Bashorun not aware that the soldiers subjected every hotel in Ado-Ekiti to a search without warrant between 10pm and 2am for the sole purpose of ejecting all those who could not give ‘satisfactory’ explanation of their business in Ekiti State?

“Yet, while all ‘illegal aliens’, like Governor Amaechi and others suspected to be All Progressives Congress (APC) members were harassed and expelled from the state by the army, some non-indigenes, who are chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including two serving ministers and an influential thug from Anambra State, were allowed to ‘monitor’ the election. Indeed, they were fully protected by the armed Gendarmes.

“Even though the Bashorun admitted that he was ‘struck and inconvenienced by the rigour and saturation of the security blanket’ on account of repeated security check points, he dismissed the complaints of the militarisation of the election. As far as he is concerned, the United States Embassy had endorsed the militarisation by issuing a statement to the effect that ‘the security forces collaborated effectively and provided a safe and secure environment free of major incidents’…”

‘Nyanya Bomber’ Ogwuche Arrives... To Answer For Abuja Blasts That Killed 94 Nigerians

Ogwuche-The-Nyanya-Killer-Is-In-Nigeria-To-Face-Justice-2-Ogwuche, a Islamic Student who fled to Sudan after masterminding the twin blasts that killed nearly 100 Nigerians in Nyanya, Abuja, has been handed over to face justice in Nigeria

It is justice time as the International Police Organization (INTERPOL) yesterday handed over a most wanted student-terrorist, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, to Nigeria's security agencies.

At the airport to receive the terrorist were the spokespersons of the police, ACP Frank Mba, Department of State Services (DSS), Marilyn Ogar, Defence Headquarters, Major General, Chris Olukolade and Mike Omeri, Coordinator, National Information Centre.

Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche is a student of Arabic Language at the International University of Africa, Sudan, and is allegedly mastermind of the deadly Nyanya twin bomb blast that killed nearly 100 Nigerians and left scores physically damaged for life.

The April 14 blast killed about 75 people while another 19 people died in the second blast on May 1.

The British born terrorist is an indigene of Orokam, Ogbadibo LGA, Benue State, Nigeria.

He was declared wanted by the Nigerian government on May 15 and arrested by INTERPOL in Sudan on an international warrant.

According to, ACP Mba Ogwuche had hired lawyers to resist his extradition to Nigeria, making the process a difficult one.

The extradition only became possible after "tortuous legal and diplomatic processes between Nigeria and the Republic of Sudan,” Mbah said in a statement.

Unpatriotic Citizen

Ogwuche, the son of a retired Nigerian Army colonel, deserted the Nigerian Army in 2006, after serving in the Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Army at Child Avenue, Arakan Barracks, Lagos, between 2001 and 2006.

He was also once arrested in 2011.

With some people already calling for a death sentence on social media, what do you think would be punishment enough for his crimes?

Ethiopian Mother Tells How Her 15 Children Were Cursed, Thrown To Hungry Crocodiles

A 45-year-old inconsolable woman narrates her painful story about her fifteen children being killed by tribal elders in southern Ethiopia’s Omo Valley.

Ethiopia’s Omo Valley

Mingi is the traditional belief among Karo, Hamar and Bano tribes in southern Ethiopia that children with physical abnormalities will bring ill fortune, drought, famine, disease and death to its tribe, if they aren’t killed

Buko Balguda’s seven sons and eight daughters were all killed at birth by village elders. For Ms Balguda, the nightmare started when her future husband failed to be initiated as a man in a traditional ceremony and thus could not marry a woman.

Despite elders prohibition the wedding took place and every child born in this family was doomed to death as he/she was considered to be cursed (‘mingi’). Ms Balguda wasn’t required to kill her own child, she was forced to stand and watch as elders carried her babies away to their deaths.

"I lost five plus five plus five babies – 15 in total. I had seven males and eight females. During this time, our tribal traditions were very hard. It was not me who killed the babies. It was other people from my village. I did not respect our traditions, so they killed my children."

Mingi is the traditional belief among Karo, Hamar and Bano tribes in southern Ethiopia that adults and children with physical abnormalities will bring ill fortune, drought, famine, disease and death to its tribe, if they aren’t killed.

A child can be declared Mingi for the following reasons: because of disabilities, because their parents didn’t get permission for a pregnancy from the elders, because they are part of a set of twins and most cruelly of all, because their teeth develop the wrong way.

Cursed children are left alone to be eaten by hyenas, thrown to hungry crocodiles or simply starved to death in a locked hut

Cursed children are left alone to be eaten by hyenas, thrown to hungry crocodiles or simply starved to death in a locked hut. The tribe leave cursed children alone in the bush without food and water to be eaten by hyenas or drown them in the river full of crocodiles.

The Karo officially banned the practice in July 2012, while around 50,000 individuals secretly continue to practice it in other Omotic communities. The charity organizations working in Ethiopia ask parents of ‘mingi’ children to give them to orphanages or foster parents. It is illegal but elders do it in secret and nobody has been arrested for doing it so far. Until things change, the pain for women like Ms Balguda will continue. "At the time, I had no choice. Nowadays, when i see the women giving birth or giving milk, I feel sorry. I feel lonely. Nobody is on my side."

Mystery 100-meter-wide hole appears at Russia's 'world's end'

MYSTERY HOLE IN RUSSIA

MOSCOW, July 16 (Reuters) - Researchers are to investigate a giant mysterious hole that has appeared in one of Russia's most isolated northernmost regions, state television reported.

It was unclear what had caused the gaping crater, about 100 meters in diameter, filmed from the air in Yamal, which means 'the end of the Earth' in the local Nenets language, where temperatures plummet to -50 degrees Celsius (-58 degrees Fahrenheit) and the sun barely rises in winter.

An expedition to collect soil and water samples from the site was planned for Thursday with two researchers from the Siberian-based Center for the Study of the Arctic and a scientist from Russia's Academy of Science, state news outlet Vesti reported.

TV Zvezda, broadcast by Russia's Defense Ministry, reported the person who shot the video footage as saying the hole appeared to have been caused from below and that the darker soil around its top indicated the effect of high temperatures.

Yamal, inhabited by indigenous reindeer herders, is one of Russia's richest regions in natural gas. The hole was found near the Bovanentsky gas field, leading to speculation that it could have been caused by an underground explosion.
