Seme Killing: Customs Boss Wants Peace With Community

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi, on Wednesday has pleaded with the community for better relationship and understanding after the death of an officer in Seme.

Abdullahi stated this during a condolence visit to the family of a Superintendent of Customs in charge of the Aradagun Customs Checkpoint in Seme, Mr. John Motojelu, at Ibereko, near Badagry, Lagos, News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Abdullahi however said the alleged killing would not deter the service from fighting smuggling. Abdullahi, was represented by the Coordinator, Zone A of the NCS, Mr. Victor Gbemudu.
Motojelu was said to have been driving to the Seme Area Command Headquarters of the NCS for a meeting when he was attacked and killed.

Abdullahi said it was worrisome that some people still engaged in extra-judicial killing, describing the act as barbaric.

“This setback will not stop us from discharging our duties; we will remain committed to anti-smuggling activities,’’ he said.

The CG said the deceased contributed to the development of the Ibereko community.
He said, “I know that the controller of the command holds a customs/community parley with the people every month.

“I do not know why this happened. As you can see, the officer lived in the midst of the people.
“Our officers live and even build houses so as to be part of the communities where they work.”
He said that the NCS would take responsibility for the education of the deceased’s children up to university level.

Meanwhile, 31 suspects are being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, over the incident.

It was learnt that police detectives visited the crime scene on Tuesday to gather evidence and interrogate eyewitnesses.
