The Ika North East local government are
vigilante group Chairman. Engr. Amos Agbobu in their monthly meeting held at
Owa-Alero on Saturday, 24th August, 2013 said the security of Ika
land is for everybody and not only for the police, soldiers nor the vigilante
or other security agents in the land.
According to him “I am happy with reduced
crime rate in my jurisdiction, but the vision of the vigilante groups in the
area is to see Ika nation free of crime”.
Engr. Agbobu stated that to ensure effective
local policing, the vigilante men in their various units are undergoing
screening so as to fish out hoodlums among them. “We are determined to ensure
safety of lives and property in the area,” he added.
He revealed that data of person’s screened
will be submitted to the police for record purposes and if found wanting of any
crime, will face the wrath of law. Engr. Agbobu said that he has no doubt that
those who passed the screening exercise will be law abiding and will discharge
their duties responsibility.
He further disclosed that Stanley Okoh and
Blessing Okiti have been dismissed from Owa-Oyibu vigilante group. He used the
opportunity to thank the police DPO at Owa-Oyibu Police Station, DPS Ignatius
Nnaji for joining them at night always.
Engr. Agbobu concluded by advising Ika
youths to engage themselves in production just as he called on well to do Ika
people to build industries and skill acquisition centres.
