In a carnival-like
atmosphere, in the events Hall of Grand Hotel, Asaba, the APC formally
announced its presence in Delta State, with the visit of the South-South Zonal
vice Chairman, Chief Tom Ikimi to the state capital, on Wednesday, 28th
August, 2013.
According to a
press statement signed by Chief (DIG) Donald Ugbaja, rtd, the meeting witnessed
an unprecedented turn-out of enthusiastic supporters of the party from the
three Senatorial Districts of the state. Seated on the high table with the
South-South vice-Chairman, Chief Tom Ikimi were staunch party leaders,
including the former Edo State Governor, Chief John Oyegun, Senator Francis
Okpozo, Senator Adejo Eferakeya, Chief (DIG) Donald Ugbaja, rtd, Engr. Hyacinth
Enugha, Chief Frank Kokori, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Oliseh
Imegwu, Olorogun Otega Emerhor, members of the Interim National Executive
Committee, and a host of other part leaders in the state.
Chief Tom Ikimi,
who chaired the occasion, in his address, outlined the nature of the Interim
Executive Committees to be put in place in the state. Adding that with the
registration of APC, all the parties which formed the APC namely CAN, ANPP, CPC
and their respective Executive Committees stand dissolved. He emphasized that
every prospective member of APC is a co-owner of the party, stressing that APC
does not belong to any person or group of person.
Dwelling further
on the structures of the party, Chief Tom Ikimi informed the gathering that the
guidelines for the registration of prospective members will soon be released.
He however,
expressed appreciation and satisfaction at the reception accorded him and his
entourage, noting that APC has come to Delta State on a rescue mission, in an
answer t the popular clamour for change.
