OBJ faults Buhari's end of year deadline

Here is an excerpt of the Interview, where OBJ spoke on the Boko Haram deadline issued by President Buhari.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo in an interview, said the Boko-Haram menace, will not end any moment from now.

He said this in an interview with Punch Newspaper correspondents.
Here is an excerpt of the Interview, where OBJ spoke on the Boko Haram deadline, as obtained from Punch Newspapers.

What’s your view about the Boko Haram war deadline?
I’ve talked about that. You have to have an objective, otherwise, if you say go, and you don’t an objective… An objective is not cast in concrete. Look, I want you to finish a job in two days though you know it could take probably four or five days, but you must give an objective. I believe that what the President will get and which he knows he can get, is that he can get the upper hand; the military will get the upper hand over Boko Haram and of course, I think we are working towards that. But we will not get the end of Boko Haram in three months or in six months. And even when you get the upper hand militarily, you have to do what you have to do the socio-economic aspect.

President Buhari Happy As WHO Removes Nigeria From Polio-Endemic List

President Mohammadu Buhari has expressed happiness on the formal removal of Nigeria from the list of polio-endemic countries by the U.N. World Health Organization.

Speaking at a ceremony at the presidential villa in Abuja to mark that polio is no longer endemic in the country, President Buhari expressed his happiness and vowed to maintain the status. The president also stated that the government will do their best to protect these gains and ensure that polio does not return. He has promised to increase surveillance and immunization to completely eradicate the disease by 2017.
The president said: “It is with great pleasure that I receive you and your team today on this very happy event, marking more than a year in which no polio case was reported in our country. For 14 consecutive months, Nigeria has not recorded any new case of polio virus. This, as I had been briefed, is the first step towards certification of Nigeria as polio virus free country by WHO in the next two years.
This achievement, I recall, also resonated at the 70th UN General Assembly when the Director-General of WHO, Dr. Margaret Chan, mentioned it. I therefore commend WHO for their consistent steawardship in Global Health Security As you are aware our, efforts to to eradicate this crippling disease started in 1998. It has taken a lot of toll on our country in terms of human and material resources.
We are however not relenting as we are determined to achieve our collective goal of saving our children from further paralysis from polio. I want to assure you that there will be no complacency, as we will maintain and improve on our surveillance system as well as raise the childhood population immunity against the polio virus to avoid any spread of the disease.
The federal government will sustain the current momentum and we shall continue to regard this campaign as an emergency until we are declared polio free in the next two years. I would like to reiterate the federal government’s commitment towards the achievement of a polio free Nigeria in 2017. The Government will sustain the needed funding for operations and vaccine procurement for the programme.
Also, the Presidential Task force on Polio Eradication will be reconstituted under the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Health to provide political direction and oversight in order to avoid complacency and relapse. I would like to place on record my recommendation for the vaccinators, community mobilizers, partners, parents and caregivers who have supported the polio eradication initiative of Government through the years.
I would like to commend the support of our traditional and religious leaders who have contributed immensely to the polio eradication efforts. By the same token we thank development partners, particularly WHO, UNICEF, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, US-CDC, Rotary International, and a host of others who contributed financially and materially to the over-all efforts.”
It would be recalled that Rotary International has released N 1.38 billion ($6.9 million) to Nigeria as an encouragement for the country to stay free of polio disease. As recently as 2012, Nigeria accounted for more than half of all polio cases worldwide. Since then, a concerted effort by all levels of government, civil society, religious leaders and tens of thousands of dedicated health workers have resulted in Nigeria successfully stopping polio.

Ladies; 5 Types Of Men You Should Avoid If You Don’t Want To End Up Miserable

1. He’s dashingly handsome but not very smart
Sometimes those good looks can be deceiving. Handsome doesn’t go very far when it comes to having to pay the rent, unless he lands the lead in a hit movie, but if he’s not too smart he won’t be able to learn the lines so don’t count on that. However, if you find a guy who is both handsome and smart, then grab him quick and consider yourself a lucky girl. But wait, how can you tell if he’s smart? Here are a few clues:
He has at least some higher education — academic or technical — that has or is preparing him for productive employment.

He can carry on an intelligent conversation with you about world and national events.
He’s wise with his money. Not a penny pincher, but smart about paying his bills and saving in case economic hard times hit.

2. He’s lazy
The odds are if he’s lazy now, he’ll be lazy after you marry him. If you think you have the power to turn on his latent work genes, you are sadly mistaken. What you see is what you get. Wise women who are looking for the right man to marry have been watching what has happened to their friends and the men they married. If a man is not motivated to work hard now, that’s a sure sign he needs to be passed over by you. The ability and desire to consistently earn a paycheck is one of a good man’s most desirable qualities.

3. He drinks too much
This can be a disaster. If he can’t control his drinking now, he’s on the way to becoming a debilitated drunk later. Is that what you want? Read up on the behavior of men who drink too much and you’ll find divorce courts full of the women they abuse. This applies to those who are addicted to drugs as well. Avoid these kinds of men vehemently.

4. He makes you feel less than adequate
If he’s always criticizing you and finding fault with the way you do things, that’s a huge red flag. If the man you’re with doesn’t make you feel of worth, ditch him quick. Run, don’t walk. Whatever he’s doing to you now will only increase in the future. Too many women have become doormats to domineering men who make themselves feel powerful by diminishing their mates. A good man will praise you, be proud of you for your accomplishments, and rejoice in the good that is happening in your life. You will become more because of how he treats you. That’s what good mates do for each other.

5. He is disrespectful to his mother and others
It has been said that it’s a good idea to look at how a man treats his mother because there is a high probability that this is how he will be treating you in the long term. If the man you are attracted to is disrespectful to others, no matter how he treats you now, later you will become one of his disrespected victims. Sometimes a guy can shine when he’s dating—put on a fancy front to impress you—then the true colors come out when you’re in a more committed relationship. Don’t let his actions fool you. Just know that if he treats others, especially his mother, disrespectfully, that’s how he’s likely going to treat you as time goes on.

Too many women get caught up in the I-can-fix-the-bad-boy mode. Avoid that trap like the plague. Don’t marry a fixer-upper. It doesn’t work. Date guys who are already in the groove of being a good guy. If you are in the good-girl groove yourself, you have a far better chance of attracting the good guys. Be the kind of quality person you want your man to be.

Okowa tasks schools on technical education

By Akpokona Omafuaire & Brisibe Perez

WARRI—Delta State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has tasked schools on the need to establish and encourage technical education in their curriculum.

Okowa spoke at the 4th annual national dinner and 70th anniversary of Government College, Ughelli, celebrated by the school’s old students in Warri.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Festus Ovie Agas, explained that the state government was doing everything in line with its educational policy to resuscitate and encourage skill acquisition.

He noted that this was evidenced in the Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme, STEP, and Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme, YAEP.

The governor assured that his government would consider the request to set up a governing council for effective management of the premier college.

Speaking on the topic Education and the Next Utopia, Professor Godini Darah, a member of the defunct National Conference, commended the state government for its Delta Beyond Oil initiative.

Darah noted that although the programme appeared glamorous, it would be ineffective if it was not linked to education.

He said: “If the right technocrats are not trained towards actualising the programme, it becomes ineffective because the more educated we are, the more productive we become.”

Chairman of the event, Alaowei Broderick Bozimo, a former Minister of Police Affairs, noted that Government College, Ughelli, would continue to sail higher given the calibre of graduates it had produced.

Earlier, President-General World wide of Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association, GCUOBA, Prof. Oritsegbemi Omatete, spoke on the importance of excellence as reflected in the culture of the school since it was founded in 1945.

Five old mariners of the school, Prof. John Pepper Clark, Olorogun Miller Uloho, Prof. Peter Hugbo, Prof Vremudia Diejomaoh and Prof Oritsegbemi Omatete were honoured with lifetime achievement awards.

PHOTOS: Men With Sharp Spikes, Huge Knives And Guns In Their Cheeks Celebrate

Hundreds of Thai men with swords, spears, metal tubes and various sharp objects pierced through their cheeks and other body parts took to the streets to celebrate their annual vegetarian festival.
Please, scroll down for photos. Warning: graphic content!

The Vegetarian Festival is a nine-day period in October that celebrates the abstinence from meat during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar.

During this period eating meat, drinking alcohol and having sex are thought to be vices and pollutants of the body and mind to be cut out entirely by the truly devoted.

It is celebrated throughout the entire country, but the festivities are at their height in Phuket, where about 35% of the population is Thai Chinese.

It attracts crowds of spectators to look at the devotees who engage in extreme acts of self-mutilation. They believe that it will help them obtain good health, peace of mind and purify their souls.

In accordance with the traditions, many religious devotees perform ritualized mutilation upon themselves and one another while under a trance-like state.

This is done without anesthetic, always inside or near the temples surrounded by other devotees with only iodine, petroleum jelly and surgical gloves as precautionary measures.

Luckily, few people ever need to have prolonged medical treatment, and although in the weeks after the festival many people will be seen covered in bandages, scarring is uncommon, stitching is rare.

Return to daily activity for the devotees occurs shortly after the completion of the ritual, frequently before the festival ends unless performed on the last days, much sooner than before the bandages themselves are removed.
